| Mount Abu is the highest peak in the Aravalli Range of
Rajasthan state in western India. The only hill station in Rajasthan, Mount Abu
is more than just a summer retreat. The mountain forms a distinct rocky plateau
22km long by 9 km wide. The highest peak on the mountain is Guru Shikhar, at
1722 meters above sea level. It is referred to as 'an oasis in the desert', as
its heights are home to rivers, lakes, waterfalls and evergreen forests. Ancient
Name of Mount Abu is "Arbudaanchal" . Abu is also rich in natural scenic
beauties. |

| Mount Abu is located on the boundary between Rajasthan and
Gujarat with a natural mandate to serve as a Hill Station for the relatively dry
and arid western part of the country. The town comes to life under the onslaught
of Gujarati honeymooners, weekend crowds and pilgrims who come here to boat in
the picturesque Nakki Lake. This hill station posses the honor of being the only
hill-station in Rajasthan as well as north-west India. Home to lakes,
waterfalls, green forests and the hill retreat with its cool and soothing
climate attracts number of tourist and pilgrims. Enjoy the rich flora covering

| Mount Abu was the home of many saints and sages in the old
days. Legend has it that all the 330 million gods and goddesses of the Hindu
pantheon used to visit this holy mountain. The road leading to Mt. Abu is a
curved one characterized by arid region dotted with huge rocks in weird shapes
and high velocity winds. |

| Mount Abu is one of the most famous pilgrimage sites of the
Jains and known for its grand Dilwara Jain Temples. Besides the temples and
sites of historical importance, Mount Abu is also rich in natural scenic
beauties. There are interesting treks and picnic spots, romantic royal retreats
of the various erstwhile families of bygone Rajputana and some relics of the Raj
period. The scenic landscapes include gigantic blocks of rocks in weird shapes,
an array of coniferous trees, flowering shrubs, lovely lakes and the cool
climate much in contrast to the arid environs of the state. |

| During the British rule in India, it used to be the favorite
summer destination of the British who came here to escape the dusty, dry heat of
the plains particularly Rajasthan. This place is held in reverence by Jains as
well since Jain scriptures record that Lord Mahavira, the 24th Jain Tirthankar
(spiritual leader), also visited Mount Abu and blessed the city. |

| Number of festivals is celebrated in Mount Abu that are
participated by people from all over the world. The important among them are
summer festival and gangaur festival. The summer festival is celebrated for
three days in Aashadh according to the Hindu calendar falls in June. The tribal
culture and folk music and dances, participated by a large number of foreigners
are the main attraction of the festival celebrated. And representing the
traditional culture of Rajasthan the festival Ganguar is a great event in Mount
Abu. According to the Hindu calendar the festival celebrated in Chaitra, which
usually falls in March or April and is dedicated to Lord Shiva's consort Gauri.
This festival is celebrated all over the state of Rajasthan with colorful
processions, wherein the people dressed in their best dance, sing and make
merry. |

| The shops remain full of curious in marble, sandalwood and
sandstone, saris, bangles and linen with Sanganeri prints. To buy handicraft and
handloom products, Rajasthali-the Government emporium is the best place. And the
shops also includes traditional textile varieties, gold and silver jewelry,
carvings in wood, marble and metal, Rajasthani paintings, leather articles and
stone crafts. The shops around Nakki Lake constitute the main shopping centre of
the place. |

| The city experiences a pleasant climate throughout the year.
Their summer temperature varies between 23 and 34 degrees C and in winters it is
between 11 and 28 degree C. |

| Mount Abu is located in the southwestern Rajasthan, close to
the borders of Gujarat. It is located at a distance of about 185 km from
Udaipur, 221 km from Ahmedabad, 264 km from Jodhpur, 500 km from Jaipur and 765
km from Delhi. |
