Kasauli Hill Station
Kasauli is a charming town and one of the quietest hills stations in India situated at an altitude of 1927 meters above sea level in the Shivaliks and is a small hill station that still retains its colonial ambience of the 19th century. Kasauli is a lovely place located in Himachal Pradesh. A favorite destination for vacation in India, this place is worth going on sightseeing tours. Kasuali is a small hill town replete with quaint relics from the British Raj. This town is famous for the Kasauli Brewery which is the largest brewery in the World. Between the major city centers of Chandigarh and Simla the town is almost a midway point. Kasauli is known for its orderliness, wild profusion of flowers and its superb greenery.
Kasauli are ablaze with color and the very air is redolent of pine. Indeed most of the hillsides are covered with pine and the ground underfoot is thickly carpeted with resin rich needles. There are oaks too, and rhododendron, firs, horse chest hut, wild cherry and several varieties of deciduous trees. The cantonment was established in 1842 by the British colonial rulers as a hill station and was also a popular holiday retreat for the Maharajas. After independence, the town was annexed to the state of Himachal Pradesh.
According to one of the legend, Lord Hanuman stopped here on his way to the Sanjeevani Hill to obtain the Sanjeevani herb. There is a Hanuman Mandir here on top of a 300m hill called Monkey Point. Clad with forests of chir-pine, Himalayan oak and huge horse chestnuts, the hills surrounding Kasauli presents a gripping sight. As you move through the narrow roads of the hill resort, which slither up and down its course, you come face to face with enchanting vistas.
Kasauli is filled dense thickets of Himalayan oak, pine trees and chestnut trees. The narrow zigzag roads that wind up the hill are a delight to take long walks on. The place is blessed with breath taking scenery and soothing views.
One can see Choor Chandni peak from here, the 'Mountain of the Silver Bangles' where snow shines in the moonlight as a bangle moving down the hill. The Upper and Lower Malls run through Kasauli's length.
There are many tourist attractions in Kasauli that are worth the visit. Kasauli is easily reachable from anywhere in Himachal Pradesh. The best way to explore Kasauli is by walking. Go on nature treks with your family, friends or simply by yourself. The roadside shacks offer lip smacking local food that is a hit with tourists and locals. Embark on a tour to Kasauli and explore nature in its best form.
Kasauli is famous for the Pastur Institute, which prepares vaccines for protection from rabies and dog bites. The institute is also famous for treating victims of hydrophobia. This institute is the oldest institute set up in India and is famous till date. It was set up just at the start of the 20th century.
Located 77 km from Simla, 65 km from Chandigarh and 50 km from Panchkula, it still retains the old world charms and is a throwback to the past.
The Climate of Kasauli is favorable around the year, summer bring Pleasant and winter mild with occasional Snow Fall. In winter, temperature can lower just above freezing point when heavy woolens are required. During summer, the climate is mild and light woolens or cottons are recommended. The Monsoons are special charming. Kasauli gets second to highest rainfall in India.
