Dalhousie in Himachal
Dalhousie in Himachal, a place of peace and tranquility is excellent for health rejuvenation, holiday lovers, honeymooners, trackers and other adventure activities and for tourists looking for a quality time in the lap of majestic himalayan ranges. A popular summer retreat among the holidaymakers, Dalhousie is a paradise of unspoilt nature. Dalhousie is the gateway to Chamba. A picturesque and popular hill station, Dalhousie was set up in 1854, as a retreat for the British soldiers and bureaucrats and it was named after the British Viceroy Lord Dalhousie.
The background of Dalhousie is set on the five hills and facing the Pir Panjal. The altitude of Dalhousie town varies between 1500 mts to 25500 mts and lies on and aroud five hills named- Kathlog, Patreyn, Tehra, Bakrota and Balun. This place provides stunning views of plains and snow-capped mountainous ranges. It is situated towards the western edge of the hills and east of River Ravi. Old colonial-era buildings, low roofed stalls and hotels dot the town while paths and treks on slopes with alpine vegetation are excellent for short strolls.
Dalhousie has charming colonial architecture, including some beautiful churches. Its location presents panoramic views of the plains - and like a long silver line, the river Ravi twists and turns below Dalhousie. The spectacular snow-covered Dhauladhar Mountains are also visible from this enchanting town. Besides, for nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts, there are many activities to indulge into like trekking, mountain climbing, nature walk into tea garden and blooming orchard.
The maximum temperature of Dalhousie in summers is 30*C and the winter temperature comes down to almost O*C. Heavy woolens are required in winter and light woolens or tropical in summer. Being one of the most famous hill stations of Himachal, Dalhousie is well equipped with excellent accommodation facilities.
Airport 180km from Jammu and Kashmir. Dalhousie is easily accessible from all the important cities and towns throughout the year.

The nearest railhead is at Pathankot at a distance of 80 km from the hill resort of Dalhousie. Regular buses and taxis connect Pathankot with Dalhousie.
