The great epic Mahabharata revolves around the town Hastinapura. Hastinapura was the capital of the kingdom of the Kauravas. The capital of Emperor Bharata is the first reference given to the city Hastinapur in Hindu mythology. Historical war of ‘Mahabharata’ in ‘Kurukshetra’ between Kauravas and Pandavas  took place at  Hastinapur. The place ‘Varnal’ is also near Hasitnapur, where Duryodhana built a house ‘Laksha Grih’ to kill Pandavas.
In the Doab region of Uttar Pradesh Hastinapura is a small town in the present-day and 37 km from Meerut and 110 km from Delhi.
Only one huge temple constructed on a 40 feet high hillock is present at Teerth Kshetra Hastinapur is very beautiful, magnificent and artistic temple having artistic and huge spire. An artistic spire room on the top of the temple is constructed. On a four feet high platform the temple is constructed and only one part sanctum large corridor. With three gates altar is white colored idol of principal deity Bhagwan Shantinath in Padmasana posture, 1½ foot in height is installed in V.S. 1548 by Bhattaraka Jin Chandra. In the both sides of principal deity attractive idols of Bhagwan Kunthunath in left and  Bhagwan Arahnath in right are installed.
Hastinapura is Sanskrit word means Hastin is elephant and pura is city named after the elephants. Shanthinath, Khunthunath & Arahnath are the three gods of Jain religion was born here. And ruled the place in 5th, 6th, 7th as Chakravarti kings. The Teerth became most famous as the ‘first Aahar’ (juice of sugarcane)  of first Teerthankara ‘Bhagwan Rishabhdev’ given by King ‘Shreyans’ here on the day of ‘Akshaya  – Tratiya’. In Shashtras the places is also described as Gajpur, Hastinapur, Nagpur, Asandivat, Brahmasthal, Shanti Nagar and Kunjarpur.
Festival of ‘Raksha Bandhan’ originated from Hastinapur, in the memory of vanishing the trouble of 700 ascetic Munies by ‘Muni Vishnu Kumar’ on the day of ‘Shravan (Savan) Shukla Poornima’. Many temples were built in the city by Grandson of Samrat Ashok, king Samprati during his empire. The city has come across through many ups & downs like the Mughal Invasion which destroyed and devastated most of the Hindu religious places so the ancient temple & the stoops are not present today. On the earlier course of the river Ganga Hastinapur city was located.
In early 1950s the excavation at Hastinapur was carried out by B.B. Lal, of the Archaeological Survey of India. "Was to find out the stratigraphic position of the Painted Grey Ware with reference to other known ceramic industries of the early historical period", are the main aim of this excavation, mentioned by Lal himself.
There many other shrines in and around the temple of the Jain.  Maan Stambha (Column of Dignity), Trimurti Mandir,  Nandishwar Dweep, Arahnath are installed in two altars, Shri Neminath Temple, Bhagwan Arahnath Temple, Shri Adinath Temple, Shri Kunthunath Temple, Shri Bahubali Temple, Jal Mandir, Kirti Stambha and Panduk Shila are included in the temple complex. Shrines of Muni Vrishabha Sagarji, Kshullaka Manoharji Varni and other Munies are found here.
Hastinapur is 120 KM from Delhi. Regular buses are available from 7 AM to 9 PM from Meerut which is the nearest Railway station (42km). Nearest Airport: New Delhi. (120 km)
Vidura Ka Tila
One of the main tourist attractions of the ancient city Hastinapur is Vidhur Ka Tila. Vidhura, the half brother of Dhritarashtra and Pandu, of Mahabharat era is where the name of the place derived. A collection of several mounds and some mounds are approx 50 to 60 feet tall are found in the place. This place gives an excellent sight seeing of an ancient site of Mahabarata era, must visist the Vidura Ka Tila in Hastinapur.
