Lord Vishnu Temple Rishikesh
Hrishikesh is a name of Vishnu that means 'lord of the senses' and is holy city for Hindus, a famous centre of pilgrimage. The town of Rishikesh is a combination of the ancient tradition and modern progress enhancing its glory. Natural beauty of Hrishikesh in spite of progress is still untouched and soothe place is very popular with tourists. Close by water sports like river rafting, etc are conducted.
Rishikesh at an altitude of 1160 feet above sea level is 25 kms from Haridwar. Earlier Rishikesh named Kubjamrak. Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamnotri all the four famous pilgrim centers of Garhwal share Rishikesh as their common gateway. Surrounded by hills (the Lesser Himalayas) on three sides and holy Ganga River flowing through, Rishikesh is an ethereal experience.
Rishikesh is popular with the foreigners. The various Yoga asanas taught on the banks of the river Ganges draw them to this place. Many yoga centers are found here. A person visiting Haridwar invariably visits Rishikesh. In fact Rishikesh is a favourite of those coming to meditate and seek salvation. It is believed that meditation on the land of this holy place leads to salvation. Every year many people come here in the ashrams to meditate and gain peace of mind.
