The Aranmula Parthasarathy Temple is on the left bank of the Pampa River near Aranmula. One of the most important Krishna temples in Kerala, the others being at Guruvayur, Trichambaram, Tiruvarppu and Ambalappuzha.
And one of the five ancient shrines connected with the Mahabharata in the Chengannur area of Kerala. The temple has four towers over its entrances on its outer wall. The eastern tower is accessed through a flight of 18 steps. Descending 57 steps through the northern tower, one can reach the Pampa River.
Punnatur kotah
Punnathur Kotta in Kottapadi near Guruvayoor where the grounds are used to house the elephants belonging to the Guruvayoor temple as it used to be the palace of a local ruler. By this it is renamed Anakkotta, meaning "Elephant Fort". There are currently 86 elephants housed here, all offerings from by devotees of Lord Guruvayurappa, and they are trained here as well. The oldest elephant is around 75 years of age. Gajapooja (Worshipping Elephants) and Anayoottu (Feeding Elephants) are observed here, as an offering to Lord Ganesha. The 10 acre compound is open to public and you can watch them being fed and bathed. The elephants were donated by various devotees including Jayalalitha. The elephant race and the feast for elephants are very interesting.
Thirssur Pooram
Thrissur Pooram one of the most colourful temple festival and is the annual temple festival of the town of Thrissur of Kerala which attracts large masses of devotees and spectators from all parts of the State. In the premises of the Vadakkunnathan Temple, situated on a hillock (Thekkinkadu maidan) right in the centre of the city, on the Pooram day in the month of Medom (April-May) Thrissur Pooram is celebrated with great devotion. Thrissur Pooram, the mother of all temple festivals in the state, is essentially one of spectacles. The two devaswams- Thiruvampadi and Paramekkavu- explore and exploit every source at their command to make this annual festival a memorable one. The best elephants of the state from the various temples in Kerala are sent to Thrissur to participate in the Pooram festival.At 3' 0 Clock in the night spectacular display of fireworks begins. It lasts till 6' 0 clock in the morning.
Thrissur Zoo
Thrissur Zoo is the major travel attractions spread over an extensive spread of 13.5 acres of land area. This century-old institution boasts of endangered species like the Asiatic lion, tiger and the extremely rare lion-tailed macaque among its collection. The species also include some of the rare and endangered varieties. Its impressive reptile-house with specimens such as the majestic king cobra, Indian python and krait is counted among the best in South India. The variety of wildlife in the Thrissur zoo includes tiger, lion, deer, sloth bears, monkeys, hippopotamus, camel and other diverse varieties. The avi-faunal varieties range from pink flamingos, mithun of the north-eastern hills, lion-tailed macaque and an assortment of many other species in myriad hues.
