| An important pilgrimage center for Hindus is Dwaraka, on the west coast of Gujarat. Every inch of the city is linked up with Lord Krishna and is the place where ruled his kingdom. 12 Jyotirlingas representing Lord Shiva which manifested in different parts of the country as one of these is located in Dwarka and is known as the Nageshwar Mahadev. The sanctum of the Dwarkadish temple and dates back to 2500 years is the Jagat Mandir or Nij Mandir has its own hall of audience and the roof of the hall is supported by 60 columns as the main temple rises five storeys high ansd there is also a conical spire. The spire is richly carved and rises to a height of 157 feet. Rukmini"s( Krishna's wife) temple is one of the most popular temples in Dwarka is that of considered an incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and beauty. |

| In Puranic times, being associated with the life of Lord Krishna dwaraka is the holiest place. Enjoyed pride of place as the most important spot on the Saurashtra coast Dwarka was known as Kushasthali or Dwaravati. After slaying Kansa, Lord Krishna traveled with the entire Yadava community to the coast of Saurashtra where he founded a town and named it Swarnadwarika by leaving his abode at Mathura. |

| The present temple Dwarakanath, also called Trilok Sundar was built by Vajranabh, Lord Krishna's successor and great grandson is the belief. According to puranas, Lord Krishna in his last days asked his devotees to leave Swarnadwarika so that the sea could swallow the city. Lord Krishna's city lies buried under the sea until this day. Kabas, Modas, and Kalas are the original inhabitants in this region. Out of three races only one is believed to be present. |

By Rail
Dwarka is a station on the Ahmedabad-Okha broad-gauge railway line, about 137 km from Jamnagar, 217 km from Rajkot and 378 km from Ahmedabad.
By Road
A state highway with Jamnagar and Okha also connects it.
By Air
Nearest airport is Jamnagar, from where flights for Mumbai can be taken. Luxury coaches are available from Dwarka to other important cities of Gujarat. |
